Geologic forces raised the Ozarks. Myth enshrouds these hills. Human beings shaped them and were shaped by them. Meet Brooks Blevins who in his A History of the Ozarks, Volume 1: The Old Ozarks sketches out the geological history of the Ozarks, then jumps forward to when the earliest humans, the Paleo-Indians, arrive around 12,000 years ago, and ends this first volume of his trilogy with a portrait of the hardscrabble farmers and entrepreneurs all of whom were eager to possess the Ozarks.
The Carroll and Madison Public Library Foundation is so pleased to welcome Blevins, the Noel Boyd Professor of Ozarks Studies at Missouri State University, to Books in Bloom on May 19. See you then!
